Privacy
Cloq counts visits to websites that add it, for the owners of those websites. It is built to collect as little as possible.
What we record about a visit
- The pages viewed, their titles, the time of each view, and how long each page was on screen.
- The website the visitor came from (its domain only, never the full address) and any campaign tags in the link.
- An estimated country, state and city, looked up from the IP address at the moment of the visit.
- The browser's language and time zone settings, the browser and operating system names, the device type and the screen width.
- Events the website owner chooses to send, such as "a search was made", with the details they include (for example the search term).
What we never record
- IP addresses or full browser identification strings. They are used in memory for a moment and then discarded.
- Cookies or anything stored on the visitor's device.
- Anything typed into a page, unless the website owner sends it as an event detail (like a search term).
To tell one visit from another, Cloq combines the IP address and browser string with a random value that is replaced every day and then deleted. The result cannot be turned back into an address, and the same person cannot be linked from one day to the next.
Visit records are deleted after about 13 months. Location data is provided by DB-IP.com, includes GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com, and includes IP2Location LITE data available from lite.ip2location.com.
